Hi i have a '78 f-150 factory A/C truck,(condensor, pump, and lines removed by PO). when I start it up the blower motor works fine in all speeds. Then after driving 10 to 15 minutes it quits blowing. If i stop at a store or some other place for a few minutes it comes back on when i start it. The temp selector lever on dash is stuck half way between hot and cold. But the cable is removed and the temp door is safety wired in the hot position under the hood. Is there a temp sensor or anything that is cutting the blower motor out once it gets half way warm in the cab? or a breaker? or any other thoughts?
Well I pulled heater control out of dash and noticed orange wire coming off the blower speed switch was hooked up to the blend door control lever (sensor deal) buy a red with black tracer wire. Then back to a plug with a orange wire leaving it. So I plugged the orange wire coming off the blower control switch directly into the other orange wire plug. The blower motor comes on and works in all positions as of now. I hope this is By passing the A/C components and will just run the blower motor correctly for the Heat. I will test out on the way home tonight and post results tomorrow if it continues to work or cuts out 1/4 of the way home.
If by passing this is a no-no let me know. Hope it works its 15F outside
Well it cut out on the way home last night again. On my way to work today I kept it on medium fan speed and it stayed on the whole trip, 45 minutes. Looking over the fuse block and noticed there is a 20 amp circuit breaker in the heater fuse spot in the fuse block. My owners manual says it should be a 35 amp fuse. I can only find 30 and 40 amp breakers gonna get one of each and see if high speed will stay on. Any comments welcome.
