Expy vs. Nav trans
So I just sold my 99 Nav and it had the 4r100 Im looking to buy an expy this time just cause I like the way they look, but did they all come with the 4r70w? Or just some of them? And if so what year do I have to buy to get the 5.4l/4r100 combo? Thanks! Oh yeah my budget means that it has to be a 97-02

The 99 and up Expy's with the 5.4L have the 4R100. The 4.6's came with the 4R70W or whatever it is. I am not sure if the 97-98 trucks had the 4R100, they may still be called the E4OD. The 4R100 is just an evolution of that trans.
You are really splitting hairs though, all of them will last a long time if cared for. Most F150s with the 5.4 came with the 4R70W and I have seen them go over 250k miles without a rebuild. Unless you plan to tow a house across Texas in the summer I don't think any of them are likely to fail for no good reason.
