The intake gasket on my 79 F150 302 has been leaking coolant externally for years but none getting into the oil. I changed the gasket last week and I checked the oil everyday before I started it and after it cooled off after driving for 3 days. Now it has set for 3-4 days. I opened the hood, coolant was standing on top of the timing cover area and there was coolant in the oil. Intake gasket? Or did fixing intake gasket make the gasket between block and timing cover start leaking?
Going to be changing out intake gaskets again in the morning. Yall recommend leaving the coolant out for a day or put it right back in after changing gasket? Hopefully I can figure out why the one I just put on failed.
I put a thin coat of RTV around the water ports on the heads and the water ports on the intake. I also followed the torque pattern and specs in the factory manual. Have no idea why it leaked.
Thank goodness it has an aluminum Edelbrock intake on it and not the factory cast iron 2 barrel that will throw your back out trying to lift up.
