The wider ac clutch WILL fit the older compressor as in the 94 and 5 models that had the narrow pulley. I just did it.
Also the wider idler pulleys fit the early 94 engine just fine too! On the ac clutch just put the belt to the rear of the pulley. I just throw this out there in case someone else has a newer parts truck like I do.
The alternator and fans are interchangeable too but the design of the 97 fan is a lot quieter. The 94 one really roars if you have a good clutch on it.
Yeah, Ordering a 94 or 95 ac clutch and stuff, they just give you the newer one.
You just have to make sure to line the belt up on the inside towards the compressor.
To bad my compressor is fried.
But with the idler pulleys I had issues.
So i went and got the right ones. One of the idler pulleys I installed, I don't recall which, rubbed on the motor.
That must have been the top one I bet. On the newer pulley the bearing is inset just a bit. Like 1/16 inch or so. Its flush on the old one. It's rubbing on a bit of casting flash where it bolts on. 2 seconds with a file fixed that. It's amazing the crap they do to fix a casting flaw! yeah lets change the pulley design instead of paying that mexican factory worker a penny more in labor to debur something.
Sorry I had to say that. It's true.
