How can I tell what kind of transfer case is in my 1973 F100 390ci? The lever doesn't have a 2H-4H-N-4L pattern on it, but only a 2-4 pattern (2 is forward and 4 is aft).
To double check, since I've never owned a vehicle with locking hubs before, to engage four-wheel drive, I'd need to lock the hubs and put the t-case into "4," correct? Since there is only a "2" and "4" on the t-case lever, would "4" on the t-case and "1" on my four speed be 4-low? 4-high would be "4" on the t-case" and "2" (or three?) on the four speed?
Sounds like a Dana 21 which has no 4 low. Lock the hubs first then you can shift the TC in or out as you wish while coasting. Don't try and shift if the hubs aren't locked as you will get major grinding.
