i want to change my automatic transmission in my 95 f150, and find a better one than an E4OD, which is what it has. It has an overdrive on/off button on the gear selector on the steering column. The engine is a v8 with a 5.0L.
what is wrong with your e4od? the only "better" one you are going to find is a manual tranny,or a c6 and then you lose O/D and have computer issues unless you change computers also.
well, it seems like its slamming into gear and 2nd is going out. i have to rev it high in 1st to get it to dump into 2nd which makes the engine work harder
might try pulling codes before having any transmission work done. If you don't have a code reader, you can do it like this Ford Fuel Injection » How To Run a Self-Test the tranny slamming into gear could be a sensor issue. If not,and you need to have the tranny rebuilt, there are updates to the e4od to make it much stronger.
Are you sure you have an E40D? What transmission code on your door label? I have a 1995 with 5.0 and mine was equipped with Trans Code "U", which is 4r70w.
i now know i have an E4OD trans. i recently installed a tach because it looked cool and noticed that when im going 30 mph the tach says 1800-1900 rpms and it'll stay like that till i hit the OD button on the shifter. now, if i noticed that if i go 30 mph at the same rpms, but slightly ease off the gas and back on, the rpms will drop to like 1500-1600 rpms and as i reach 40 mph, the rpms will be at like 1800 rpms, hit the OD button, and the rpms drop to 1200 or 1300 rpms, which i think is normal. i changed the oil and filled the trans. i filled both differentials which were half empty, filled my transfer case which was empty.i have a manual, but its not too usefull, only a parts swap and replacement guide.
Also, i found i have 2 true hair thin cracks in my passenger side shorty header and a crack in where it connects to the y-pipe. im trying to find a site that sells them and a y with an O2 sen. mount before the catalytic before they connect but with no luck.
i found a plugged pcv valfe filter clogged with dust, cleaned it, and put it back in; now my truck starts up quickly, slightly better throttle response although it didn't fix the problem im havin with my transmission. i hope someone can help me
i tried pulling the codes a while ago and i remember something about the purge canister having a closed circut and the MAS voltage being too high and another code telling me i didn't hit the OD button, but i dont know when to hit it after a certain code type is given. my step-dad let me use his code puller but didn't bother to give me thenstruction and code book. i know theres another test that requires measuring either the temp. or the speed of the engine, i didn't have anything that can do either. im just gonna try to take it in somewhere.
