Transmission problems

Hi all,
So I have a 98 ranger Reg Cab, 3.0 2wd, auto.
About 3 weeks ago, reverse went out on me, felt it pop when i gunned it in a puddle. Anyways, after a few call i figured that the best option for me would be a refreshed used unit, wiht a warranty rather than the $1500-2000 for a rebuild.
So i got my "new tranny in this weekend, but now there is no overdrive. The OD light doesn't come on and clicking the switch does nothing, no light no down shift, nada.
It certainly doesnt feel like its shifting into OD, revving kinda high at 55-70mph.
So then i searched and i found a post about the OD light and the back up lites being on the same fuse, went to check and ... no back up lights, but also, fuse 27 which is supposed to be the back up light fuse, is empty and there is a black magic marker line over the number "27" like that fuse is not supposed to be used, any one ever heard or seen this?
Any Ideas about probs with my trans?

Thanks
Piet

In the 1999 Wiring Diagram manual it shows that fuse 27 is a 15A mini and it fuses the Trnasmission Control Switch and the daytime running lamps module, pulse vacuum hublock solenoid (if used) and the reversing lamp switch if manual and the Digital Transmission Range Sensor if automatic. so yeah, it's gotta be there.
