My 82 F-150 has been acting a little funky here lately.
When i stop for fuel, say i drop in $5 which gives me 3.1 gallons and a half a tank, from a Quarter.
After i leave the pumps and get about a mile down the road, the gas guage drops, back to a quarter and will not come back up until i put more fuel in the truck.
I haven't noticed or seen any leaks. And i don't smell any raw gas while idling, going down the road, or haven't noticed any puddles after the truck has shut off.
The odd thing i did notice today, is that the gas tank, is wet underneath.
I haven't driven through any puddles or anything so i know its not just water, but strangely enough, it doesn't smell like gas when i lay under the truck.
Well, i'm supposing its the sender, in fact it must be, or the ICV for my fuel guage is going out. Sitting with the key in the acc position the gas guage was at a quarter when i first looked, then looked at it again, and it was in between a 1/4 and 1/2.
Another problem i had was the top screws in my carb were backed out, i tightened them and haven't had any problems there since.
Another great thing about my tank sender is it costs 170 dollars.
Personally i've never seen a sender that expensive, if it comes to it i'll ****** one from a junkyard or either use a weight and a length of string!
If its the side mounted tank theres a valley formed on the top front that holds water and eventually rusts away.I had to replace the tank in my 84 F150 with a salvage tank and Ihad to replace the one in my 93 F150.This time I got a plastic one from J.C. Whitney. That would explain the wet spot .The sending unit is most likely on the way out too Hope this helps
