only 1/2 throttle.

I noticed that I can only get my 78' 400 stock motor to go up to 1/2 throttle. If I give her anymore, she somewhat bogs down. It's not like a total bog she will still climb in mph. It feels like a two barrel running on one barrel, when you punch it you expect a little more pickup and your vehicle to speed up. I get neither.
The kick down works. New everything as far as tuneup stuff. Carb resently rebuilt. I am wonder maybe a bad carb.
I thought I lost her a couple of weeks ago when an employee of mine was driving her and said she had no oil press. And shortly after it wouldn't start.
The starting problem was the end of the bendix was chewed up and causing the gear to lock up. As far as the oil problem. I haven't noticed it as he proclaimed. I think it might have been one of those excuses to take my mind off the fact that he was late.
Anywho, back to my performance problem, or should I say my trucks performance problem.
Please throw me your ideas.

P.S. Closer to getting that scanner to start showing off my babies. I have already painted the hood on my daily driver.

only 1/2 throttle.

OK, found out it's mainly carb related.
I took off the 2150 out my 71' 250. Put it on the 78' 150. She ran much better. Could feel her actually want to pull me into the seat.(a little) I think a valve job could be in order. Seems to have somewhat of a miss when I open her up.
Some backyard tips on quick and easy ways of testing the valves would be appreciated.
I bought a vac. gun gauge. Read the manual that came with it on checking for valve failure. But, not sure about all that. The gauge stayed steady. I'm not sure of the exact port to test. I tested a man. vac. port.

Write back later, must go switch carbs back.

Oh, one last thing. I popped the throttle back on both carbs off the motor. The f-250 carb, that made my 150 run much better, just kinda spit out the gas on both sides. The original carb on the 150, that isn't appearantly doing what it is supposed to, sprays a fine mist of fuel on both sides.? Something inside in still a miss.

only 1/2 throttle.

I wouldn't worry about the valves until you get the carburetor fixed. It sounds to me like you have a bunch of junk in the carb, it it's not letting the full amount of gas through. I'd say a carb rebuild was in order. One tip off to the problem: the accelerator pump should squirt out two big streams of gas when you operate it; a mist or it just trickling out indicates major blockage.

As a secondary area to look, I'd investigate your fuel system in general, fuel filter, lines, etc.

Thanks for the reply,
I posted new thread about this carb. problem before I checked this thread.
I saw a 500 cfm Holley in a carb shop today. I am looking for thoughts about the fesibility of putting it on my 78' stock 400, or my 71' stock 360. Both have 2150's now. So if I were to buy the 500 and toss one of the 2150's, that would be ok.
I rebuilt this carb once before, and I soaked it over night in
Berrymans' cleaner. I don't want to waste any time on a potentially bad carb. So, I will be purchasing a new one. Just not sure if the 500 is going to be worth it on a stock motor.
Oh, what do you think about the possible jet size being a source? I am running 57's now. I live in DFW area, TX.
Thanks again,

Robert P.
