I am having a strange problem with my bronco. I notice that when rains too much and the temperature is below 40 it would not start. The start turns the motor, the ignation fails and it floods; I have to step on the gas and hold until it restarts agin and sometimes it takes a jump start from another truck. After I got it running, if I shut down and turn it on again theiddle is not stable for a minute or so but then becomes better. I had many wires under the hood redone, since they rusted baddly-cheap wires. I clean up the air intake, used a bottle of water remover and a fuel system clean solution. In the codes the indication with the engine not running is that the temp sensor is not sending a correct information to the computer. It has new spark plugs and fuel filter, I checked the fuel pressure on the little tire valve @ top of the engine, it shows pressure. Also it only runs bad on rainny and cold days . If anybody can give me any leads will be great. Also the temperature sensor was rewired too and checked. Thanks
The code for the temperature sensor is probably set because you have to run the codes while the engine is cold. When you run the codes, the computer expects to see a warm engine, and sets the code if it sees a cold engine. Probably nothing to worry about.
Does the fuel system hold prssure over time? Have you tested the injectors to make sure they are opening?
Thanks for your reply. I could not understand the code reader, but the test could be run with the engine off, key on. Today it is cold out there, around 16F and the truck started right on, just missing one time but nothing like before . Strange enough the pressure holds on, I just can think that it is weather related, but it is strange. I just hope you are right and it is nothing to worry about, I enjoy this car too much, it serves my purpose and 25 MPG @ city with a V-6 is amazing. Thanks for your posting.
Could also be a bad ground, there are several different grounding points for different systems. If you can get a factory schematic it would be wise to check them out in a experienced vehicle they sometimes get cut out with accessory lights or radios etc.
I replace one of the wire that goes from the battery to the starter and I clean up the grounds close to the radiator's top frame. Thanks for you advise and I will see if I can remove some of the plastic tubes and check the wires inside. Thanks guys.
Im not sure about that year, but ford had alot of recalls because of bad fuel pressure regulators. maybe you should replace your dis. cap and rotor.Have heard of caps being cracked and causin startin pobs in damp weather.
Hello, thak you for your replies to my post. I pulled out the spark plugs, it had a gap of 0.55, on some of them the middle post was half way gone...then I decided to check the other things that the previuos owner said that was replaced and thsi is what I found so far: the wires had different boot colors, some were very damaged; the cap was new, but the wire from the coil to the distribuitor cap was so corroded inside the boot that the cap was damaged inside and out; the rotor was 1/2 way destroided. I replaced the spark plugs with Bosch platinum plugs and a stock cap and rotor. The wires I got it at Napa auto and It was expensive but worth. The car now starts very fine, I am just waiting for a bad day of rain to checked it out, but it seens to be much better than before. Thanks for the information, I will post the results.
sounds like a miracle the thing would run at all.jus goes to show you ,double check someone elses so-called new stuff .sounds like his idea of new was a late night trip to the local junk yard. .Hope it rains soon lol
I am sorry but the guy that I got the bronco from is not the handman or mechanical type, and the worst is that he took the car to a local mechanic...maybe if he knew better he would not spend too much money for this bad repairs. Any person either should get a trustfull mechanic or be able to check his job out.
