I have an 08 F-250 XLT Diesel with 80k. I took it in about 2,000 miles about ( 2 weeks ago) and had both fuel filters replaced and oil as well. On thrusday the 3rd I took my truck in to get new tires put on (not at dealership where I had service work done) . I get home on Friday park the truck at about 6pm and go out the next morning at 11am and pull out of my space and there is oilly resiude about the size thats about 1ft x 1ft.
I stuck my finger in it and it looked like oil to me. It is coming from drivers side about a foot behind the front tire and dripping down from the rail. I took it to the dealership where I have all my service work done and they took a look at it and said its probably diesel fuel that wasn't cleaned up never well from the last time they replaced the filter..... They said they cleaned it up and washed out the remaining resdue and if its still leaking to bring it back monday and have them look at it.
Well I went to the carwash and pressure washed it all out (what I could see and reach) My concern is that would the residue from 2 weeks ago just now start showing up on the ground? That seems odd to me.
I think two weeks is a long time, especially given the fact that you have gone 2K miles.
What I would suggest to that you get up under the truck and check for leaks at the fuel/water separator. You need to take a rag with you, wipe it all clean if it is not and then start checking for leaks.
I will probably just take it in to have it looked at again on monday to be safe. I drive about 1,000 miles a week and don't want to ruin into any major issues down the road
I think that if the rail fuel filter leaked it would drip onto the top of the frame rail - Some diesel might have caught in a hollow on the frame, and the way you were parked might have let it drip down later. If it is leaking, it's not going to get better by itself, so you would see some every time.
Last summer my frame fuel filter began leaking out of the spout. Evidence was a small pool of diesel just about where the OP is describing. What I learned is 1. the leak would stop when the truck was running, 2. the leak would stop when the filter got empty. Mine was under warranty and they just put a new one on. Good luck with your's.
