L/R Timing Tensioners
L/R Timing Tensioners
Anyone know the difference between the left and right timing chain tensioner for the 5.4 Triton? All I can see is that the right tensioner has a small oil hole centered at the end of the shaft, and the left one does not.
Mine's an '05. Longer story shortened, I installed a timing set, and threw away the old ones. Ran it, it ran BADly, pulled it apart, and found the left tensioner binding and would not retract (and I mean with serious force in a vice with a big hammer). I went to Ford and bought a new left tensioner, still problems, but they don't seem as bad. I pulled it back apart to find that the new left tenioner almost binds up like the other, but it will retract in a vice after blowing oil out around the shaft. The right one blows that oil out of the small hole at the end, and it retracts smoothly using a vice, whereas the left one is not smooth and really gets stiff before the oil blow around the shaft. Does that sound right?
Anyone familiar with this? Cause I would love to find that this is my problem. It barely runs and gives P0345, camshaft position sensor A bank 2. I've changed the sensor, phaser, and swapped VCTs L to R. I haven't messed with fuel or electrical yet.
