New here......trailing arm question-UPDATE

hello! i am glad to have found this great forum.
i have a 99 Exp EB and of course it won't pass inspection with rotted through rear trailing arms. i found a set online for $140 each and they arrived in 2 days. they look great but there are no bolts included.
can anyone tell me what size/length i need to get.
i don't want to have to wait at the shop while they try to find or run to get the ones they need.
i would like to be prepared.
any help would be much appreciated!

The uppers use m16x75 and m16x90 and the lowers I got came with m16x110. I think you could get by with m16x100 for the lowers as the ones I have are pretty long. Make sure the hardness is 10.9.

It's too bad you didn't ask first. We would've sent you over to PMT for them.

They have them for $285 with the bolts and free shipping too.

Here's my experience with the trailing arms on my 97.

oh dang! that is a good deal! mine were $280 with $27 shipping but no bolts.
its a lot better deal than my Ford dealer who wanted $190 each for the arms with a total of $480 with installation.
i'll take them to my regular garage and have them put on for much less than the dealer.
i just have to get the bolts.
thanks Craig for the specs on those bolts, that helps alot.
i should be good to go in a couple days. i don't feel real safe driving right now with the one rusted completely off and the other one rusted clear through but still attached.
funny , they inspected this thing 6000miles ago and passed it. they had to have been bad then, they don't get like this that quick. knowing its a weak spot they should have at least tapped the rust off with a hammer and had a good look at them.

If "they" was a dealer, that did the inspection, it really isn't surprising. "They" should really be taking care of this repair if it was represented to you as inspected at the time of the sale. Most dealers invest as little as possible before marketing a vehicle. Yours sounds like a serious safety issue and I would address that with whoever "inspected" the truck.

The PMT ones are good, those are what I replaced mine with. Take a look at your track bar as well. The powder coat seems to fall right off of them. PMT makes a replacement for that as well.

Good idea. i'll have my guy check them when he installs these.

i agree Greenie that the dealer screwed up. i bought this Exp. last Oct. '09 so i haven't had it long. i do love the thing though! i went to one of their big "tent sales" to look at a Suburban which was gone by the time i got there. the vehicles are all supposed to be "certified" used cars meaning they have been gone over thoroughly and are good to go.
i opted for free state inspections with my purchase.
so i found this beauty EB Exp and took it for a ride. it was great, i was sold! i thought the price was a bit high for a '99 with 96k on it at $8995.
but it was "mint" from what i could see, plus 4 brand new tires, so i bought it.
i hated to say goodbye to my Buick Roadmaster wagon but i really needed 4X4 where i live.
anyways, i took it for 1st inspection 2 months later in Dec. Wouldn't pass, needed front brakes, they said. we must have missed it somehow, so they put them on for free, so if they missed obviously bad front brakes, no wonder they didn't check the suspension components.
me thinks they didn't check it over at all. now this.
he said "i wouldn't drive it very far like this", yeah thats great, the weekend before i made a 300mi round trip to tow a camper home!
i may just have to give them a call and ask them to install these at no charge since they missed them completely the 1st time. huh?

Actually you shouldn't be driving it at all. The trailing arms are what hold your rear axle in position. Should that second one decide to let go, there is nothing stopping your axle from wrapping around and coming out. The extra damage will be extensive, more so if you get into an accident over it.

had the dealer put them on today and it took them over 2 HOURS to get the old ones off! ha! didn't cost me a cent either, i sure messed up their day, but they really messed up mine. they told me to be there at 11am and i said mind you i have to be to work at 2:15. no problem, they said, its a quick job, YEAH RIGHT!
i got home at 2PM made it to work at 3pm, new inspection sticker and my new trailing arms!
hopefully they learned something today. that these Expys have a weak spot and they best be checking them more thoroghly.

P.S. i didn't have to get the new bolts after all. as i was telling the shop manager the whole story he said "you don't ned to get the bolts, we'll just use the ones on there"
i said are you sure? i read that the one bolt is up against the gas tank and has to be cut off.
he said its ok we'll take care of it.
betcha he won't say that again!
