I say that Fuel Injection was an option in 1985 on 5.0L V8s. But I think that carburated was an option too. I think that Mustangs had Holley 4Vs and trucks/Broncos had 2Vs Motor crafts or Holleys. Somebody correct me. It would have been speed-density. Speed density employed manafold-absolute-pressure sensor among numerous other sensors. It relied on load/vacume against fuel and spark tables.
Ford EEC IV speed denisty did not function so well with excessive overlap--I don't know how much though. Speed density has great potential though. Ford''s Speed density was limited by Ford's fuel and spark tables. Some people correct this and have nice results with Ford Speed Density on high-overlap motors.
I like speed density. I wonder what the re-calls were for the early years of EFI on the 5.0L. I have never owned a Ford Speed Density car but I drove a 1991 F-250 two-wheel drive ex-cab 8' foot bed, 5.8L EFI, 4.10:1 gears and 29" tires and I liked it a lot.
