Navigator torque converter replacement
I have a 1999 Navigator with the 5.4 SOHC engine.
It seems like shudder from the torque converter is fairly common. The remedy seems to be a drain and fill of the trans fluid, didn't work for me! I changed the fluid putting in some castrol fluid, no shudder for about 5 days, then it was back. So a month later I changed it again, but this time I went to Ford and used Motorcraft fluid (expensive) This got rid of the shudder for about a month, then it started to happen again. Read that someone on here added some friction modifier to the trans to stop the shudder, so i tried that and it worked! For about a week..... All fluid changes were according to this guide (https://www.ford-trucks.com/article/i...nsmission.html)
Now I am ready to bite the bullet and just replace the torque converter before it grenades itself and takes out the transmission with it. unless someone else knows of a miracle fix?
To all that have replaced there torque converters where did you get them from? I don't need a performance one, stock will be fine. I tow my car 3-4 times a year other wise the truck is a DD.
Any input on where to purchase a quality torque converter and a decent price will be appreciated!
