Wheels off the ground, remaned plastic style pump, remaned steering box, filled pump with fluid, fired up engine and when I bumped the steering wheel getting out of the truck the wheel started to violently shake back and forth. I could not control the wheel so I shut motor down and of course it stopped. Fired the truck back up and it did it again when I bumped the wheel.
Anyone seen this before or have a clue as to whats failing, is there a check vale of sorts in the pump that could be hanging up?
I assume that's done by turning the wheel back and forth while its running but I can just touch the wheel and it will jerk out of my hand left to right.
Will cycling the wheel back and forth without the truck running bleed the air out?
You are not going to like this but your new box needs to be returned. The upper part of the sector shaft was not done right. You have fluid bypassing somewhere around the recirculating ***** and back towards the check valve causing the wheel to pulse. I have had this happen to me twice but only on two junk boxes from NAPA I ended up going with a Cardone unit from Kragen and it solved my issue. I went with Cardone after I called their help line for the NAPA box because NAPA does not provide support for their junk and the tech narrowed it down to that and a new box from Cardone fixed it. Turns out most of NAPA's remans come from Mexico and are not tested prior to leaving
Yeah sorry to hear that but it has been a growing problem on these forums of how bad NAPA's reman'd parts are getting and they will not stand by their warranty and will just try to say you caused it. I try to stay with AutoZone or Kragen they take stuff back for the most part no questions asked and just need your phone number for the lifetime warranty unlike NAPA which needs a receipt which I always lose.
Good call Kragen Shucks and Checker are now dead O'Reilly's bought them .I just keep calling it Kragen for some reason even though its now O'Reilly auto parts.
