It will see occasional off road use. No hardcore trails or anything like that. It's mainly going to be my year round daily driver, work truck, parts hauler. It will also be used to tow my car trailer once in a while and possibly plow some snow in the winter.

Backwards

Ill jump in again. I will say these scoops mounted backward is a where
you live kind of thing. Where I come from just about all of these were
turned around its not a rain issue it is a snow issue. I got alot of
plowing miles under my belt in these big jobs and when you hit a snow
drift your dead, and ill bet with all those complaints all big trucks then came
with them mounted backwards, cause drivers never bothered to close the
air box in winter time. Thats why all my trucks are backwards and I add
it is a total acceptable practice if your in the snow belt. The next note
we bought 3 in 1964 the gas job 534 scoop mounted on the right and
the other two Cummins had two scoops. There should be a pic of that
in my garage.

Thank you big job. I thought my memory might be worse than it is. The winters here and where I grew up used to be quite severe, -65 at times and lots of snow. I believe your right. I can also understand running outside air to get more power until the carb iced up. One always gets more turbo boost in cold weather. The diesels with twin scoops is interesting. Never seen any of these trucks with Cummins, just the small V-8 Cats. Will definitely visit your garage.

Sorry for the pic quality. It is cold and damp outside and the garage is not much better for light. Hope these help to at least get you started.

Decide to just post here since a couple others emailed and asked for pics too.

Here's some with the tape:

Big Job hood Scoop

In order to mount the 1956 Big Job hood scoop in the correct factory location are as followed, measure 7 1/2" from back of hood scoop to back of hood edge towards cowl vent. Place colored masting tape there so you will know where the scoop sits. Now with the (6) studs removed from hood scoop, place scoop on hood, centered, then place masking tape at the front corners of scoop, front & side. Make sure to make paper template of hole pattern ( 6-holes) with outline of hood scoop showing back edge and front corners. Cut this paper pattern out so you can line it up to the rear and front tape lines. After placing it in location, tape the paper template to the hood. Now drill thru template at the (6) drill locations. NOTE: start drilling with a 1/16" drill bit or smaller and work up to 5/16". If you don't, and you try to drill the holes to large to fast, your drill motor will be sucked down and DENT your hood. Now mount the scoop. Now for vent location in hood, a 4 1/2" hole is located 11" from back of hood edge forward under scoop plus drilling matching duck vent screw holes.....Enjoy

Thanks for the info. I'm not too concerned about the exact location of the scoop on the hood. I'm not doing any kind of restoration so I'm just going to mount it where it looks the best to me.

The pics of the hood scoop from CARBS & CHROME look to be mounted to far back on hood from the factory location specs. Make sure the measurement is 7 1/2" from back of hood to back of scoop... On a Big Job truck the carb/air cleaner is centered at 11" from back edge under the scoop. Its very important to place hood scoop back at the 7 1/2" mark to make it look right on the hood for a factory installed look....Stan

Click on my screen name, and view my truck with proper scoop location...If anyting, move the scoop forward. The closer back on the hood with the cowl vent opened, looks funny ......Happy FoMoCo'n

I've seen your truck pictures. You've got a nice looking truck. But they way the scoop looks on your truck is going to be different then they way it looks on mine.

I'm not a restorer. Look at my truck it has parts from at least 8 different trucks and from 4 different decades. My engine is set back close to 9" farther then yours is. My truck will be much taller then your truck. Really I could care less if my scoop is an 1" or a 1' different from the factory location. So I am going to mount it where it looks good to me.

I'm glad that you are such a stickler for factory details. But not every one else is.

And Carbs & chrome's scoop looks good to me.
