85 speedometer mot working
I have a 1985 Bronco 5.8L, automatic with cruise control. One of the problems I am having is that the speedometer does not work. I did some trouble shooting to try and figure out the problem. I removed the speedo cable and gear from the transmission and looked at it, it seemed fine. I spun the gear by hand while my wife looked at the speedo and the needle did not move. I removed the instrument panel and had her watch the end of the cable while I spun the transmission gear, nothing. I disconnected the cruise control unit from the upper speedo cable, twisted the speedo gear and bingo the cruise control unit, male end was rotating. Last night I replaced the upper speedo cable, but the gauge is still not working. Is the speedo gauge bad? How can I check this?<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com

If you can bypass the cruise control unit and run directly to the speedo from the lower cable, you can check its operation since you KNOW the lower cable to be good. Could be the outbound on the cruise or the upper cable as well. Process of elimination.
