My 97 F-Superduty 5-speed is blowing a lot of white smoke in lower gears & above 2000 rpm. A few weeks ago I replaced the fuel pump because it was leaking & replaced the o-rings in the fuel canister. The fuel canister was full of all kinds of crap. If something got into the fuel pressure regulator, could it cause this? The truck idles & runs good. It has no cold start problems. I just finished up my 6.0 innercooler installation & noticed this issue. Could the moving of the hose for the MAP sensor to the hot side cause this?
It's either the O-rings or the turbo burning oil. My turbo burns a little oil blowing white smoke. Not doing anything about it cause I plan on an upgrade soon
Just by-passed the innercooler by installing the stock turbo outlet manifold. The smoking problem has gone away for the most part. The hot side innercooler pipe had no signs of oil in it so I do not think that my used innercooler is full of oil. I will try attaching the MAP hose to the hot side & see what happens.
How much smoke does she put on the first cold start of the day? I'm not talking about a bad glow plug or two...If she's putting out more than normal I would bet it's the injector o-rings.
I know that it has been over 2 years since I had this white smoke issue. After the removal of the innercooler, all smoking has stopped completely for over 30,000 miles. I really would like to add some additional power since 99% of my driving involves towing. What would I need to go along with the 6.0 intercooler/Banks twin ram manifold set-up as far as a chip is concerned?
