I wanting to buy a 88 Bronco XLT Fuel Injected, 351W, 4WD, 4 Spd AT, PW/PL, decent body and interior. The engine was just serviced, new battery, new exhaust pipe., excellent body and interior, engine sounds great and tranny shifts smooth. Here is the major issues I have no clue about.
Owner told me the front differential is leaking "just a bit nothing major", he said. So how much would that cost to fix and how soon would I have to fix this issue.
Second the odometer reads 638K Owner doesnt know actuall miles but he guessed 138k.
Third temp guage does not read on the dash.
Other than that he has had this serviced showed me about 700$$ in recent repairs, I like how it runs and talked him down to 1,800 (is that a good price) Went to drive it tonight, weather 24F last night sat all day about 60s and it started right up and idled great.
Whats the verdict do I buy or is there to much work with that differential???? I'm newbi to mechanic work, only 3 years XP with an enduro motorcycle, but I want this as a project and to learn on. All comments and opinions welcome, be your worst if u must LOL. Thank you all.
It depends on where the front diff is leaking from. I wouldnt reccomend you start auto work on a dana 44 TTB bronco axle tho. Make sure there are no title issues, especialy since there is a HUGE discrepancy with the odometer. Ive registered vehicles in 3 different states and they are all a little different with that kind of stuff. Lock the hubs and make sure the 4x4 works too. I think the price is ok, I paid 1200 for mine and it didnt run! (although I knew it was a simple problem and easily fixed) Decent shells seem to be getting harder to find and Ive seen **** boxes selling for well over 2k here in Az.
2 good to be true, I guess.
Now the guy tells me the original title is under the name of who he bough it from out of state, he just wants to sell it to me and have me register it like if i bought it from the other guy. WTF can't I find a decent bronco. LOL
