With the amount of time and money Ford and ATS put into development of the 7.3 turbo motor, probably adopt the ATS system.
Kinda like Ford using the International motor.
That got them around the first hurdle to find out how well the market would take to a diesel pickup without having the blunder GM had with the original 5.7 motor.
That motor sold more 6.9 Fords than Fords own advertising did.

Here is the correct way to calculate engine displacement.
Take your bore squared (multiplied by itself) times your stroke times 0.7854 times the number of cylinders in your engine to arrive at your cubic inches (cid). Here is that formula simplified: (bore) x (bore) x (stroke) x 0.7854 x (# of cylinders) = cubic inch displacement
