I have an '01 Limited with high mileage, 185K, that I stole a couple of years ago when it had 150K on it for $5000.
No major issues in 35K miles, cruise control switch, new battery cables only. After putting on some Bilstein shocks, which were recommended on this board, and a new set of Michelin LTX M/S II's the truck rides like new.
The engine runs great and I've had no problems, but understand that the plugs can cause problems so I feel I should change them not knowing their history. I'm not one for spending extra money for promises of performance or guarantees on such utilitarian items like this so what specific plug would you recommend for me. If you could be brand specific and model or part number that would be even more appreciated.
After searching and reading a TON of info on here for this same question, I've come to the conclusion that OEM(Autolite/Motocraft) are the best option.
Yes. OEM is best, and make sure and use anti seize on the threads, and TORQUE to spec. V10? Have fun getting to the back ones. A little time consuming, but very do-able.
As said above, OEM is best for this job. Make sure you replace the boots with new at the same time also. There is a great write up in either the superduty forum or the v-10 forum. At work right now so I don`t have it stickied here or I would attatch link.
I just changed all my Plugs a couple weeks ago, used the Autolites. I also replaced all the boots, the boots we're only 3 or so bucks a piece at NAPA. The only Plugs that were challenging to get at, were the last two on the passanger side, but it wasn't too bad. Get some of the Di-electric grease for the new boots.
