Just got my renewal letter from Sirius. They want $447.00 for a 3yr contract. I think that is over the top for a radio service. I have over 2500 songs in my Iphone and for what they are asking, I can download about 500 more from Amazon then I can listen to what I want to hear anytime I want. My Sirius service is going bye bye
The pricing is totally dependent upon who you get on the phone when you renew. I was initially quoted over $800 for a three year full meal deal and said no thanks. Sirius called me back last week and dropped it some but when I offered $300 the rep told me he couldn't do it but transferred me to the Cancellations dept. They ended up giving me music plus Travel Link for $300 for 24 months. I probably could have worked them harder but it's worth that to me. I actually really like the Travel Link features with weather, sports updates and fuel price locating.
The more you argue with them, the lower price you get. You can also get a lifetime subscription for around $600. We got the lifetime on our boat, but the travel link might add some more on to it.
Before XM merged/was bought by Sirius they pulled the same stunt with me. Just say you want to cancel if they can't give you a reasonable deal. They will transfer you to the department "Customer Retention" who can actually cut you a deal.
I am not happy with the fact that we are locked into Sirius or for that fact any one source provider of service. If competition existed for the service, we would get some competitive pricing. I was surprised the regulators let XM and Sirius to join together.
When my subscription (before the truck) went from the original $12 a month up to $16 this past year, I called and ended up getting it reduced to $6 a month for 1 year. Not sure what I'm gonna do when the 6 month intro expires on the truck.
The good news is, if Howard Stern retires, Sirius will be desperate for business and subscriptions will probably be dirt cheap.
Personally I hope he sticks around. He's the only reason I got Sirius in the first place.
I really could care less for any of it...The fuel prices and weather is helpful...for the amount that I actually use it..not worth it. For those of you that listen to talk radio its nice...I listen to it as well but I'm not gonna pay for it when I can turn to an am station and get to hear what I want anyways...plus the sound quality on regular music sucks!! I prefer HD radio over Satelite any day and thats just for the quality of the music.
In short Satelite radio sounds like someone put a cassette recorder in front of a radio..recorded something and played it back to you on the cassette.
What we could do is start listing what everyone is paying when they renew their sirius. Then everyone will know how low they will go on a monthly basis.
I just got my letter today before I saw this post. I called and asked about a "lifetime" rate. They quoted me $639.10 lifetime (with all royalty fees and taxes). But they do not offer a lifetime rate for the travel link service, only 5 years at max. The rate for lifetime Sirus and 5 years of travel link came to $738.48. They sure are pushy, wanted me to sign on now and I still have 40 days free... I think I will wait until it gets closer to expiring and talk to the "last ditch effort" people before I commit.
The above rates do not include the best of XM.... I guess I will have to live without the Opra channel in my truck...
The renewal rate also depends on your location. I just moved from Miami, which is where I bought my truck, and my quote was $110 more than what I paid once my address was updated with the Sirius rep.
I ended up paying $168 for two years with music and travel link. I think its reasonable if you use it. I don't think I could go without sat. radio now, even with my loaded Ipod!
My father in law is a sat radio junkie as well and he couldn't tell the difference in the sound quality either. I suppose I'm a bit of an audiophile and the slightest diffence I can hear.

That comes to $12.30/month for the 5 years in which you get travel link which is not bad at all. And if you can get them down even further it would be really good.
Personally I love sat radio and I posted in some other thread that since the first day I got it several years ago I have never listened to AM or FM again. If this truck didn't have sat I would have put it in. I wasn't sure about TravelLink but now that I've used it for a while I'll definitely renew that as well.
Sound quality is fine for me. Audiophiles don't like it but it is not as bad as some folks are saying.
