I know there is a lot of motor swap questions. I will ask one more. I have a 79 f250 with the 460 in it. Can I swap it for a older one or a newer one like up to 85 or so. I have a line on some just not sure if there is any difference in them. I am going to keep the old one because it is the original. It is shot so I will rebuild it over time. Thanks for the in put I have never done this before so an advice would be helpful. Never done a motor swap. On a car before just bikes.

Reason: More info
I'm no rocket scientist on this but I'm pretty sure you will need a flex plate that does not have a weight attached for a older engine. Yours should be externally balanced. Older 460's are internally balanced.
Also the spacer behind the harmonic dampener will not have a weight on the the new one. Make sure you get it as I could not find one anywhere.
I think the balance change was 79, not sure i was wrong once before . My 79 has the balance weight behind the cover. Electrical and exhaust manifolds may need modifications, not sure. If this is your first time for engine removal ,i would advise you get all the information about that as you can. It's not even close to working on a bike. You can get all that help here. Good luck .
