Hi,
I have a 2004 F250 6.0 with 94k miles. Nothing has been done to the cooling system. I just installed the Dieselsite coolant filter. I wanted to do a coolant flush, but with the temps below freezing and the holidays here, I won't be getting to it till spring. Is there anything I should be adding to the coolant to make sure it is still up to par until spring.
I've read about additives but I don't know what they are or how they work.
Any info would be appreciated.
IMHO, take it to the dealer and have it done. There is also a 5 year limit on the coolant and personally I think it should be done every 2 to 3 years. Your already on borrowed time from coolant gelling, silicate fall out, and oil cooler plugging. Just my own op.
I agree with cj If to can't do it yourself, take it to a dealer and make sure they use the proper coolant VC-7-A Motorcraft Premiun Gold Engine Coolant
I agree with CJ and Rocky, take it to the dealer and have them flush and refill it for you. There are test strips you can use to check different aspects of the fluid. But if you are not familiar with what needs to be tested and how relevant each test is, it is best to let someone else do it for you and you can learn from it for the next change.
Today was forcast to be a nice day here in the northeast. Below freezing in a.m. but warming up to 45 this afternoon.
I decided to do the flush myself. I followed "Coolant Change 101" I used the VC-9 and the Ford Premium Gold Coolant. I left the t-stat in and drianed from the lower hose. I ran the first flush for 1hr, and 20 min for each additional flush. I did 5 flushes at about 4 1/2 gal. each distilled water.
I had put in the Dieselsite filter yesterday. Very little trickling out of it today! I'm picking up a new filter for it tomorrow. I may cut the old one open.
