I have an `87 F250 X-cab longbed that sat for awhile in storage before I got it. When I start it up, it runs good, but my oil pressure light goes haywire, as well as ALL the warning lights on the dash flicker on and off sometimes. A mechanic told me that I needed a whole new dash wiring harness, but have not been able to find one after looking for 3 months.
Also, when it is running, you can smell burnt wire insulation, but nothing is burning that I can see. Seems it is coming from under the dash. Anyone know what the problem could possibly be? Thanx in advance.
Another thing that puzzled me about this rig is the fact that it has an E4OD trans, but the steering column has no gear selection for the OD. I don`t know if the previous owner converted this from EFI to carb, but that`s where I`m leaning at this point.
Not an expert but I would check any and all grounds under the dash for dirty/loose connections.
Depending on what engine you have your truck may have come from the factory with a carb.
For the transmission, count the pan bolts. If it is a C6 there will be 17 bolts, if an E4OD (swapped in) there will be 20 bolts.
It has the 351W with E4OD trans. The wiring coming from the firewall is so butchered, I don`t know where to start. Hence, the suggestion of putting a new wiring harness in.
