Quick carb question

I got the truck with a new Carter yf 1bbl carb on it . The p/o got it put on the truck $400 and they could never get it to run rite ,I took it apart and discoverd that the accelerator pump inlet ball bearing was missing but the keeper was there. Gas was squriting back into the float boal instead of into the throat.
I put a 1/8" steal bearing in it and the accelerator pump seemed to work >
My question is should that bearing be aluminum or steal ?"being a weight issue"
Aluminum would close the check valve a little quicker and squrit more gas into the throat i would think. Any thoughts ?. Thanks

I would think SS. You could track down a parts list and see if it states what the material is.
