How much weight can be pulled with the bumper hitch? Also I noticed there is a factory electrical connection for trailer lighting , who sells the wiring harness for this?
Hey, I don't know the amout of weight that they can hande, but I have never ripped a ford bumper off a truck. I even did a tug a war with my 83 bronco 351w against a buddies 93 2500 chibby with a 350, he was using a receiver hitch. I pulled him 100 ft before I shut it down. If you want to test a bumper thats the way to do it. I have pulled several tractors with my stock bumper and have never had problems. I would think that you would burn your tranny before you ever rip the bumper off.
Maybe somebody knows numbers but I dont.
Hope this helps
You can get a 7-pin male connector from Wal-Mart, U-Haul, many parts stores, or any trailer/RV store. But you're probably better off changing the one on the truck to a 7-BLADE connector, since they're more common. It's pretty easy to do - just loosen a couple of screws to split the connector, then loosen the screws that hold the wires in the terminals and put the new connector on. There should be a wiring diagram included with the new connector, or you can see it here.
The factory bumper is rated for 4000lb trailer & 400lb tongue weight if a 1" shank ball is installed, but there's a chapter in the owner's manual on how to calculate the max trailer weight near p.150 in the "Vehicle Loading Information" section.
