I've never lowered a truck with schackles/hangers but I've heard it is a good way to do short drops. As for the size to use, when I lowered my Ranger, I started with a tape measure - turned out mine was almost dead level. I used springs to lower mine but that (3") may be too much for you. The installation should be easy - only 4 easy to reach bolts. See my gallery to see 3" drop.
