Whats up guys? I have a quick question. I came up to south carolina in my 73 ford and it started to hesitate. So i went and got new plugs and wires. Than i went back to ga. and it happen again but this time it was worse. It was back-firing a lot more and everytime i would hit the gas to go faster, it would hesitate big time. I know i have a exhaust leak but i don't think it would make it hesitate like that. I was thinking that it could be the cap and rotor or the fuel system like it's not getting enough gas or something. May be the fuel filters need to be changed or the gas is contaminated.
Do you all have any idea on what is wrong with it?
I would appreciate it if someone helped me out.

Could be a number of things, first off i would change the fuel and air filters. they could be clogged and starving it for gas or air. Plus they are cheep to start with. If that doesnt solve the problem then your carb might be in need of a rebuild. hop this helps and good luck.
could be the timing chain is stretched.

i would change the fuel filter and then look for leaks in the vaccum lines. try spraying the areas areas around the intake manafole with starting fluid, while the engine is warm and idling.. if there's a vaccume leak the engine will rpm(s) will increase.
