Question Bed Protection

Looking for some sort of protection for the inside of the bed. Don't want a drop in liner because they move a little and will scratch the bed. Don't really want a spray in because of the permanence. Looked online and ran across a few different alternatives to these options and was looking for some opinions and feedback on these. Also, if there are any other options please let me know. Below is a summary of what I understand each of these products to be. If I've missed any detail or am off on the descriptions please correct me. Thanks in advance.

1. Bedrug - indoor/outdoor carpet liner that seems to velcro into place from what I've read, but I don't really like the look of it and it's about $400
2. Duraliner - basically a bedliner in separate pieces the sides and front look to be made of a hard plastic and the bottom is an anti-skid rubber mat. This appeals to me the most but it is kinda pricy at about $400 and I'm not sure how it attaches
3. Bedmat - attractive price at under $100 but it just protects the bottom and not the sides.

I had the slick hard plastic duraliner in my '97 GMC, (can I say that here). I liked it ok except for the slippery part and the static electricity it would generate if you hauled something else plastic, say like, gas cans. HAZZORDOUS! Probably why they now do rubber bed mat.

My last two bowties both had sprayin. I loved it. Not slick. Didn't conduct static elec. Stiffened up the thin metal a little. But, yep, permanent.

Not sure what to do yet on the '11. Probly will do the sprayin.

What do you normally haul in your bed? Do you need the sides of the bed protected or not.....that's the reason for my what do you haul question.

Yes, spray in protection is permanent, which is a benefit and not a detractor. They look good and don't require special care.

However, if you just plan on putting parts and pieces in there and not dirt, gravel, or other loose stuff, then a bed mat might be nice.

The previous two Ford trucks I had got thick rubber bed mats from Cabelas. They're good quality and keep stuff from shifting, which is why I bought the second one when I changed trucks. I just pulled out the mat when I was going to haul something loose since I wasn't too concerned about some scratches in a truck bed. (Shoveling gravel off a rubber bed mat doesn't work too well.)

My new 2011 has the bed sprayed by Ford, and I'm glad I got it that way.

Why don't you like the permanence of the spray-in? Personally I think just the painted steel bed of a truck looks unfinished. I have the factory spray-in, first one I had and I love it. Always had the drop in before. Durable, clean finish, and looks good. Get the colored Line-X to match your truck if you like the colored look instead of black.

Basically comes down to your own personal preference. For durability, long term protection and all around use, I don't think you can beat a spray-in.

IMHO

I put the simple mat in mine because I didn't think I needed anything on the sides, then I hauled a few old parts for the project truck and one of them fell over and put a couple deep scrathes in the paint...should have gone with the spray in!

Alright here we go. I had a Line-X in every truck I have owned and it has been great however; chips have come up at times from big items but it is easy to fix. I decided to try the Bedrug this time due to a buddy who uses them. He had his last one for 8 years in an uncovered Chevy with only a little fade. I used the SKU number fromt he site and searched and found Summit Racing and got it for like $318 shipped! Took about an hour to put in and it has been amazing. I have mine covered with a Fold-s-Cover G4 Elite. They both have been great.

Personal preference I guess. Just don't really like things permanently affixed to the truck. I don't haul very much very often. Mostly just use it for towing, but occasionally may haul auto parts, mulch, luggage etc.

I just took the Dual-Liner out of my 2008 after being in for 38000 miles. There were a few small rub spots underneath the side panels, but overall I was really impressed at the condition of the bed. The mat they use for the floor is really heavy duty and left no marks on the bed floor.

Bedrug. With a RETRAX automatic sliding cover. I love it. Nothing slides around in the back and goes boom when you stop or turn a corner. We even put groceries in there with the lid closed and no worries.

Two thick 1" horse stall rubber mats in mine. Cut to fit. The thick mat protects the THIN sheet metal of the bed.
