Thanks for the advice.

I wish I was getting 12mpg average. My wife just took the X to cincinati,330 miles and and got 12 mpg. Granted it was windy but still , in the summer took a trip into michigan (200 miles) 7 of us total with the AC blasting and at 75mph and I was averaging 16mpg. These fuel companies messing with the fuel that much for winter blend? Is there any additives we can add to get the summer blend mpg? This Is NUTS!

last year when I was getting the better mpg, I wasnt using the diesel kleen crap as my anti-gel, I was buying the Ford Anti-gel. I have a fuel tank outside, and it already has 300 gallons in it with the diesel kleen in it, if the diesel kleen wasnt in it, I would be trying the ford anti-gel again. I read a topic over in the 6.0 section where a guy actually gets 50 miles less to a tank when he adds the diesel kleen, I dont know if this is true or not.

i noticed tirerack.com lists revs per mile. I am thinking about buying 3 rugged trails (and using my full size spare that had never seen the road) OR buying 4 yoko geolander at tires. 265 75 16 stock size for both but have different revs per mile listed!

Are different revs per mile throwing off your speedo?

Anyone with an excursion run a 235 85 16? same revs per mile (647) listed as the rugged trails in stock 265 75 16 size but I was hoping I would pick up a mpg or 2 because of the narrower width. ALSO I really like the idea of a bridgestone duravis m 700 hd which they dont make in a 265 75 16. (235 85 16 is a size used on f250/350 superdutys)

i ran 235/85 16s on my old '04 and noticed no differance over the 265/75s except it spun easier in the rain. no differance in MPGs.

According to TireRack, the rugged trails weigh in at 52lbs. and spin at 661 revs per mile. In comparison, the the all-terrains weigh 54lbs. and spin at 656 revs per mile.

I`m running the BFG TA KO`s, I`ve lost some mpg`s, but that`s due to the Ethanol blended fuel! are you running the stock size tires? I get about 11 in town and 14 on the hwy.

Must be a secret to getting 17 mpg with an Excursion..... best I can get is 12 and thats with a fresh oil change, new double platinum plugs and new tires aired all the way up to almost max.... oh well could be worse than 12 huh....

The secret is called "diesel".

I'm simply approximating but I'll venture to say that no gasoline powered Excursion is going to have a combined HWY/CITY MPG average much past 15 MPG.

Yeah, those numbers, judging by the many posts on MPGs, seem to be about the norm for a V10.

I have the v8 5.4 4x4 with the ypipe mod and a diablo tune. My wife drove 330 miles and burned 26.5 gal. driving 75 mph. Never ever did this truck suck gas like this! I know the lie-o-meter should be trusted BUt it's reading 12mpg and she got 12.5. 330 miles was what the gps said she traveled.

This winter blend is rediculous.

Do you think switching back to the rugged trails would give me back afew mpg? The AT's are stock size also

To the OP, knowing this information above ^^^, I"d stick with the KOs. The weight is nominal and the revs per mile will make you slightly "slow" on the speedo.

Find the stock tires Revs per mie then do this - we'll say this is X.

(656 - X)/X.

Or if the rugged trails are your stock tires, then....

Your'e running .75% (yes less than 1%) slower than stock. However, you can add it back to your MPG if you want.

My vote is for winter fuel!

rockstate I think your right.unfortunately I switched tires right when winter blend was switching over. It kinda thru me a left hook. From what i remember afew weeks ago I remember looking at the lie-o-meter wondering it was reading 2mpg lower than the week before. this was all before the tire change over. Must of been the gas.

What's so bad about rugged trails? Everyone seems to say the same thing that I won'y be happy with them

I've never had the rugged trails on my truck, but I have had the KOs.

Seems like the RTs don't have much siping and don't allow for the road conditions (i.e. mud/snow, water, etc) to be voided outside the center lugs.

If I were doing the RTs, I'd probably buy a different tire like hte Cooper Discoverer ATR or something similar.
