I got a 94 ranger, and when im in 4x4 and turn it will make a pop/thud and the rate depends on hoe fast im going, and of course im in mud or snow, now i thought it was the Ujoint on my axle but then some people told me thats normal, what do you say
if you get it fixed now you wont need to worry about it , if you wait it could brake when you are out on the trail and leave you stuck !
i have done things both ways and some times when i wait i have gotten into trouble !!
you have to start with taking off the tire then the caliper then the rotor then the hub and then the axle will pull out , i am sure there is a bunch of little stuff also but in a nut shell that should be about it !
here's a picture of the axle , on the inside of the u-joint there are c-clips or retainer clips that will need to come off , after that the joints can be hammered out or pressed out .
one way is take a socket that is bigger than the joint and one that is smaller but will fit into the yoke hole , put the bigger one under the yoke so that the u-joint cap can slide into the socket as you take the smaller one on the other side and hammer the joint out !
then do the same to the other side !
here is a video of changing a u-joint from you tube , this will give you the general idea
and you can look up a hole lot more videos from you tube ( how to change u-joints on a front axle ) YouTube - How to change U-Joints without a press
