I have a ' 97 expy and when I turn around a corner I hear what sounds like tire rub on the frame/suspension. There is no tire rub any where from what I can see. It has been getting worse also. I read earlier where someone on the list had posted that they did a fluid change on the front suspesion. All this would entail is just draining out the front differential and refilling it? Is there more to it? Does this hold 80/90W oil? Any suggestions before I start on this project?
Can you tell if the noise is coming from the front or the back?
I'm wondering if you have chattering limited slip clutches in the rear diff.
To change the oil in the front diff you just remove the drain plug to drain the oil then fill it with 80W90 through the fill plug.
The noise is coming from the front right wheel. It seems to be most predominant when the vehicle is turing to the left. On right hand turns I hardly notice it. Today when I was driving around it seemed less. Today has been unusally warm (almost 30 degrees warmer then the last few months). I don' know if that means anything or not. I hope that this helps narrows down the problem. How much fluid do I need for this?
Sounds to me like your right front wheel bearings are going. Usually the r/f will be loud when turning left and vice versa.
The wheel bearings arent replaceable seperately.....you have to replace the whole hub/bearing assembly.
The front diff holds about 2 quarts of oil.
might be the pitman arm .trying using a needle valve on your grease gun and squirt some ggrease through the rubber poiece on the pitman arm.same thing happened to my 97
