I am interested in opinions regarding what the best choice for a tuner would be to improve throttle response and changing shift points. I am interested in increased power but I don't really drive too hard any way. I just really hate the throttle lag and early shifting.

This is an 05 F150 with a 5.4l and a 4R75E AT
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
I would do something that would allow for custom tuning. Main reason is that you can get the shifting points damn near as close to perfection as you can and you can get a tune that is close to the way you like it.
You run the risk of not liking how an off the shelf tuner tunes are. You might like it, you might not. More times then not with custom tuning you can get the tune written the way you want it to be written.
1. Gryphon CS/CTS (re-badged Edge) with custom tunes from Power Hungry Performance
2. SCT (XCAL3 or Livewire) with custom tunes from either 5Startuning (Mike Butler is a forum sponsor), VMP, Power Hungry Performance, or Troyer Performance.
You will be happy with either choice. Do your research and make sure you understand the difference between canned and custom tunes.
If you have any performance mods (or plan on adding them), custom tunes are your ONLY safe choice.
The shift points are only one small piece of the equation. The TQ lockup strategy is also a very important piece of the pie among other things. I've been the off the shelf tuner with canned tunes route and learned from it the hard way. Go with a tuner with custom tunes from a good reputable shop. SCT and Diablosport both have good software and hardware for Ford vehicles. Myself I prefer SCT and am running tunes from 5 Star.
