ive had the truck for close to 2 uyears,and when i got it the guy said his brother told him it needed some sensor...buthe couldnt remember the name...
my temp guage hasnt read 1 nce...the wire got corroded and broke off the temp sender...but for 14 bucks for a new 1 which is relatively cheap... will changing and hooking the new one up imrove my poor gas mileage or make it run better...
I'm not familar with the older Rangers but if it is a single wire sensor then I don't believe it will have any affect on the way the engine runs or your mileage.
