1997 5.4 into 2000?
Hi all, I have a friend that is looking for a 5.4 for his 2000 F150. I did some reading/searching and realize the VIN is required to determine engine replacement. Also to look for the EGR valve. I'd like to find a drop in used motor. Would a 1997 F150 5.4 be a suitable donor providing the VIN indicated it would?

No it wouldn't be suitable. They have less power and would not be a 100% drop in. You want '00-'03 F150 or Expedition engines. Also if his intake is still good you can get an engine out of an E series van up to '08 IIRC, just as long as they are "L" engines. Also Superduties would work from '00-'04 BUT they do not have an EGR so you would either run it deleted or use your old manifold and EGR valve.
'99 was the changeover year to PI engines so if you can find a '99 PI with the aluminum intake they would also work.
