Stock wheel load capacity

I've seen a couple different people mention that the stock wheels are only rated to 3000lbs... where does that figure come from? Wouldn't that lower the RAWR to below what it is advertised? Also, does that figure refer to all stock superduty wheels or just one type specifically?

Tires have weight ratings.

Several poster here have stated the RIMS also have ratings, and it's 3000#

Question is where did this number come from?

Where is this number coming from? If this is true the rims are weaker than the tires...which doesn't make much sense.

17" wheels (steel or aluminum) for both SRW and DRW are rated at 3,195 lbs. each.

18" and 20" wheels (steel or aluminum) are rated at 3,525 lbs. each.

In some cases the wheel is the limiting factor as they have a lower rating then the tire. This is especially true of 18" and 20" A/T tires which both have a higher rating then the wheel that they go with...

So much for my thinking that the 20" would have higher load rating than the 18" since the wheels will be the limiting factor.

That is different than the spec sheet that was presented to me a couple of months ago showing the 3000lb specs. I'm glad to see a higher rating even if it conflicts with that other document. I'll prefer to believe this one.

Now I've got to try and remember what that other document was???

Well if there were any question in my mind, I would put full faith in the information provided by the Detroit insider. Thanks for the info, PowerstrokeHD. You have proven to be a good resource for all of us weekend warriors!
