Ok, first snow of the year. 2002 Ford Explorer XLT. Push button for 4x4 and nothing happens. Just changed the brakes and wondering if that has anything to do with it? Push button and no sounds or engagement whatsoever. Fuse? Button problem? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Pushing the button for 4x4Hi will not make any gar change noise as all you are doing is activating the electromagnetic clutch (front wheels).
4x4 Lo on the other hand shifts the gears in the T/C to low range, Foot on brake, Transmission in N.

CC,
Had similar problem with '91 Xplorer. Engagement was spotty and eventually stopped.
It was a servo-motor the engages the 4WD mechanism(s). Seized up from rust and non-use. At least that's what the repair shop said at that time for that year truck, and the 4WD worked fine after that. Have to engage the 4WD reguarily, even in summer to keep parts free.
Have '02 Xplorer and have not had that problem. Always engaged the 4WD at least monthly.
Before you replace the module disconnect/reconnect the wiring several times. The terminals in the connectors sometimes get a bit of corrosion and don't make good contact. if this happens to correct it then buy a tube of dielectric compound and apply it to the terminals.
And yes, you should 'exercise" your 4WD system occasionally throughout the year.
