Help...oil leak!

I have an 82 F100 with a 302. I have developed an oil leak, and I can't quite tell where it's coming from. There's a puddle of oil in the valley between the water pump and the intake. I can't tell if it's coming from the distributor or the intake. Possibly the oil pressure sender? Has anyone had an issue like this? It's running all the way down the drivers side of the engine. I'm losing almost a quart in 2 weeks! My problem is it's dark by the time I get off work each day and I haven't been able to pinpoint it.

My plan is to take some engine cleaner and clean the area up really well and try to see where the leak is coming from. I was just wondering if anyone had experienced a leak in this area before. If it's the intake, that's not a big deal but just happening at a bad time!

Thanks folks, and happy Thanksgiving early!

You have the right idea, clean it up, and right after that, let it idle and watch where the oil comes from. The oil sending unit is down low on the front driver's side of the engine. I bet it's the intake end seal. One trick people like to use, including me, is when you get the new gasket set, just use the gaskets on the heads, and don't use the rubber end seals. Instead after you install the head port seals, put a tall single bead of silicone on the valley ends, and then set the manifold in place. It would be best to let it sti overnight before you start it.

P.S. One of the good things about the 302; you don't have to pull the dist to do this job, but you might have to pull one of the valve covers to get clearance.

I'm hoping it's not the intake, but I agree w/ you, it probably is. Not a huge deal, just need to make time to fix it. I think you're right, you have to remove one of the valve covers. Would be a good time to clean them up as well and put on new gaskets.

I had the same leak as you mentioned. Was the gasket going bad on intake.

Not too hard of a job to do. Just you will need help setting the intake in place correctly more than likely.

Are you sure it's not leaking from the valve covers and merely collecting in that one place?

I don't think so, of course I will double check the valve covers and everything else before I pull the intake.
