The old service bulletin which I can't seem to find for the 94.5 model says to recalibrate the PCM to a specific cal number for a 96 year model. It's to make the DLC or OBD2 data port live for easier diagnostics.
I'm looking at the oreilleys web site at their PCMs and wondering which one to get. All I can figure from this crap is the ones with module ID DPC-203 are manual transmission 49 state, altitude and canada calibrations for the 96 models. But which pcm code or cal code is the latelst level that will work on a 94 to bring it up to 96 specs? Anyone got a clue?
Also, we live at 3500 feet altitude and often go higher so I think the altitude cal is a good thing. Or not??? and is a cardone or BWD PCM better?
Not a single one of the Ford dealers here know squat or even have the hookups to reflash an OBS anymore. Seriously. I did it several times a week when I worked at the biggest dealer in the area and they got rid of that computer and connectors. Boneheads.
I thought about calling DPtuner too. I heard they can flash one proper, send it to you and if it works then you send them the old one back. Not sure if this is true or not. I am interested in his 20 horse tow tune. I tow heavy a lot. Mostly I just really need that obd2 port to work and a little higher cold idle would be really nice. cold now is about 900. 1200 would be nicer.
RR - you know that the OBS's are required to be OBDII compliant so a compliant scanner won't work with them. The AE scanner with the 'enhanced' s/w will make your computer function like a good scan tool.
As far as the reflash goes, any of the "custom tune" shops should be able to accomodate you. If you want a switchable towing tune, you'll have to invest in one of their chips and the s/w that goes in it. Fast idle is usually a couple more bucks if you get the chip or you can build your own real cheap.
