I have a 76 F-100 and am having blinker problems. They worked when i first bought it but by the time I got home they stopped working. I've checked all the fuses and replaced the flashers. The weird thing is that my Hazards work so I know all the bulbs are good too. I heard that the hazards and blinkers run off two different circuits and that the blinkers run off the same circuit as the back up lights (which also don't work due to a cut wire at the light). So I have no clue where to go from here, if anyone can help that would be awesome. =)
So I looked at a wiring diagram and it looks like I might have a problem with the Signal/BU relay switch behind the dash, or the actual turn signal lever. Not sure yet. I did fix the BU light wires and they're still not working so I'm betting its the switch.
ok. bubba it sounds to me that the connection from the plug to the light is dirty. so try this disconnect the battery take the lens off your truck so you can get to your light take your bulb out and with a screwdriver scratch at the connection in the socket to try and clean them and then replace the bulb. this may help if not we will come up with another idea.
the reverse lights on a automatic colunm are mounted to the colunm under the dash. The blinker switch is on a different plug. You could check the ground wires on the bed see if they look good.Or pull the steering wheel and you'll see the turn signal switch contacts. On one of mine I had to tighten the rivet on the signal switch and all worked again.
I had about the exact same issue last week actually. Pulled the steering wheel, re-pulled the wires, and installed the new one. I found 2 wires that were out of placed and ended up reconnecting them to the flasher unit. The connection in the connector coming off the harness was loose on both and seemed like it was missing wires. The flashers do run off of a seperate circuit than the blinkers. But both go thru the same flasher module. Hope this helps.
FWIW I was able to regain proper lighting function only after I pulled the instrument cluster from the dash. I used green scotch brite cloth to buff the printed circuit board and test all the bulbs. This was after I cleaned every ground on the entire electrical system. If you got a 78 I can tell you where they all are now!
