are you using a socket to put the plugs in or are you starting them with your fingers. my 302 explorer had to have them started by hand because the deep well socket wouldn't allow the plug to get close enough to the head.

How to easily tell a 302 from a 351: The water pump top right mount reaches the head = 302, the water pump top right mount is about an inch from the head = 351. Try that or take a pic and let us tell you.

well, not to hijack, or anything, but sort of related......94, 4.9.....#2 plug would unscrew about half way and then get really hard/impossible to turn, so I screwed it back in. Tried it several times that day, tried to spray some lube in there, too. Finally gave up. Sure I could have gotten the 1/2" breaker bar on there, but.....

Anyone else have this problem, and if so, what did you do? thanks

Any reason to believe that the heads on your motor are not the original heads?

Yours looks more like a Explorer's type of spark plug.

Oh and yea, looks like a 302 to me too.

Did they put carbed 302's in F-250ies in 87? (from the "Factory" that is) Guess I never heard of one with a 302, I was kinda under the assumption they where either 351's or 460ies?
