cold start gallup. is this a problem?

I use block heater at home and starts fine on cold mornings.but problem is when I get off work and have no plug in. I cycle gpr 2 or 3 times and on coldest days around 10F truck starts right up but gallups a few times befor smoothing out. this is my first diesel and have not been around one in cold weather. is this normal or is this a sing of a problem? if it is a problem what should i look for to fix problem. my truck is all stock w/130k only mod is golden fuel svo system. has been on truck since 80K.

Not a problem necessarily, but the easiest way to fix it put synthetic oil in the crankcase.

X3 on Syn oil..You don't need a heater with syn less it's below zero. Alot of us use Shell Rotella syn 5W40.. you get better fuel mileage, so they claim.. and your turbo will last long and your injectors will love it too... .

You have the romps. As said usually a synthetic 5w-40 will prevent that. Don't think it's hurting anything though. If you have to cycle the glow plugs a couple times and/or plug in to get it started then you may need a new gpr or glow plugs. Check out the sticky up top on cold start problems.

Totally normal. Just switch to any synthetic 5w-40 and it will totally go away. Engine likes the 5w-40 much better in the cold then the normal 15-40.

I run 0-40 in my truck, and even with synthetic oil, when its cold enough, you can get the romps!

What we're saying is, try running the synthetic/blend 5W-40, that will most likely prevent the romps.

It is a problem only if it bothers you, it is not hurting the truck.
Mine romps every winter at first start-up. I know what it is so it does not bother me.
