01 Expedition
My son bought a 01 Expedition with a engine issue. It has a 4.6 and apparently the cam caps came loose and now has a valvetrain noise. But the egine still pills strong. Question is will a 4.6 out of a 96 tbird work for a engine swp other than the obvious, oil pan, intake, valve covers? Anything I need to look for to know if it will work?

I've been around the block a few times but I must say I've never heard of cam caps ruining an engine. Why would they require an engine swap?

with the cam caps coming loose and the engine running it beat up the beari g area and allows more clearance than there should be. Engine doesn't need to be swapped but the heads need to be pulled at least and machined and I am thinking that they will need to be replaced.

You could just go to a Pick-N-Pull salvage yard and get the upper halves (caps) from an engine in the yard for about $20.00. Just check the engine plant code to be sure the engines are from the same plant. The manufacturing tolerances are so tight it should be okay to do this and it's a lot less work and cost than pulling the heads or the engine.
