I have a 96 F350 4x4 single rear wheel, single cab, automatic, Powerstroke 167k miles runs great. Anyway trans has been acting strange slow shifts and seems to be a little slow locking the tc. I change the trans oil every 20k miles but the last time when I dropped the pan the filter had fallen out of its home position. With nothing holding it in thats no suprise (whoever came up with that WOW) I assume the filter falling out didn't help oil circulation.
My question: I found a e40d trans out of a 97 crew cab f250 powerstroke 4x4 and was wondering if it would interchange I have done quite a few searches on this but can't find much detailed info. Sure I could just rebuild the one I have but then my truck would be down for ? I am hoping this 97 trans will work and I can rebuild it at my leisure and install it when its ready? Thanks
Thats what I was thinkng I had read the 94 and 95 are different but not much on 96 97? Both should have the same pcm system so hopefully it'll work. Thanks for your help.
