Crew Cab

Saw this drive past me the other day in town and I found it on craigslist 2 days later doing a local search. Solid truck in person. It's Gas and auto (I've heard it), two negatives but man would this truck be sweet with a Cummins/getrag i have laying around .

Not very often you see 80-86 Crew cabs.

That is a pretty nice truck, around where I live there are usually a bunch of crew cab duallies that pop up on Craigslist (from all the horse/livestock haulers that are updating their equipment), but SRW crews from this generation are rare. My only complaint about it is the bed, it's been replaced with a late 80s/early 90s. Must have had a rust problem, since the owner says it's never been in an accident.

yea I see 92-96 trucks with rotted beds worse than anything/

But what i meant by solid is the cab and fenders. I've seen it in person in a parking lot and was like cool and took a gander.

What makes the beds different besides the tailights and tailgate ?

80-86 beds have different lines. A little bit more angular. I also recall reading that a bit of modification is required to fit the later beds on the 80-86. It is a nice looking truck, prettier than my 86 crew cab diesel. I've not seen many even though some on this list claim they [80-86 crew cabs] are common. I love mine, and the more I find out about this series of pick-ups the more I appreciate what I have!

Yea i'm BS on them being "common"

Common is a Regular cab longbed.

Maybe i shouldn't have used the word "Rare" but unusual. and this IS the first one i've ever seen in person.....And i go to truck Carlisle every year.

Obviously you won't find as many crew cabs as you will regular cab long beds. You can say that about any year of production from 60s through brand new. Most trucks are regular cab long bed, just the way it is. But for '80-'86 you won't find as many short beds, or stepside, or supercabs, though there are plenty of those out there.

As for '80-'86 Crew Cab I wouldn't consider them rare by any stretch, I have seen plenty over the years in South Jersey both in person and in ads. You want rare, try finding a '77-'78 Supercab 4x4 anything. Those are rare. '80-'86 Crew Cabs are not rare, thoguh many were 2wd.

A couple minutes and I found these in your neck of the woods...

I don't think any mods are necessary to bolt the bed on, but the tailgate takes some messing around to make it work. The only real differences are the tailgate, tail lights, and the lines around the fenderwell flare out rather than formed in like the front fenders. The frames between the trucks are the same, so the beds bolt up fine, just tailgates use different latches, and the styling of the tail lights are different.

No mods necessary to put a 87-97 bed on a 80-86 truck. Direct bolt on. The bed structure ins the same from 73-97 YES. 73-97 that is not a typo. They just use different bed skins and tailgates

Quite a few people have used later model 1992-1997, beds, and placed 1973-1979 type bed sides and taillamp pockets on them as restoration projects.
