ok i have a 89 f250 4wd 351 zf5, 8600gvwr.. fighting a brake issue of low pedal... took the master off the booster ( left lines on it ) and with it off i slowly pushed the pedal and about 3/4 of the way down it pops, kinda like a clunk more or less.. so im guessing the booster is fried... problem is i know it isnt the proper one cuz its a shallow booster, whereas i know being 8600 it should be the huge booster.. so i was pricing them online and noticed 2 different "over 7k" 'giant' boosters, but they have different pushrods... how can i tell which one is the proper one for my truck, one comes straight out where as the other one sits a little off center
Stock booster on my 94 and 95, as measured at the top out from the firewall = 6.5" firewall out to master cylinder mounting surface, booster main body measures 10 in diameter.
I didn't want to walk all the way out back and measure the 87's booster, both of those are also 8600lbs or more, 95 is slightly higher as its a extended cab but otherwise exactly the same.
took the master off the booster ( left lines on it ) and with it off i slowly pushed the pedal and about 3/4 of the way down it pops, kinda like a clunk more or less.
Sounds like a normal reaction, no load to control/limit the boosters diaphragm, slams forward all the way once pedal travels far enough, gotta say though I don't recall ever trying it.
even at if it is normal, i took a ride to my local junkyard and (luckily) found a proper "deep" booster for the over 7k as opposed to the under 7k f150 booster i have now, figure it cant hurt to put a proper part in it instead of someone elses hack fix lol...
all in all got the booster and master for 22 dollars.. both look brand new...
thing that gets me about my local jy, in the whole place (and its a fair sized lot) they have atleast 150 F150's... absolutely NO F350's, and 1... thats right ONE F250... glad i got the booster and master when i did lol... but everything else from it is stripped, i think i got the last salvagable part lol
