thanks for the heads up on the trans. section of the forums. i know some sites frown on double posting so i'll see if i can get'er done here. if not i'll slide over there
eureka! couldn't see it for the crud! can you please describe to me in detail the procedure for exposing the plug. also the chilton book says use only Mercon tranny fluid. i told the guy at Kragen this and he sold me Premium tranny fluid (house brand) that has a rather ambigous description on the label as to what its uses are
Drop the cover, rotate the engine until the converter drain bung comes round to the 6 oclock position, remove bung, let converter drain and replace bung. You will also have to drop the pan, clean it and the filter and refit, do not over tighten the pan bolts. Refill with fresh fluid.
The fluid should meet Dexron3/Mercron specs. Should say on the container if it meets DexronIII spec.
got it!! thank you so much. it was the small bolt. while i was under there i noticed engine oil that is coming down the exhaust manifold is this as bad as i suspect?
so i've drained the pan changed the filter, drained the TC. to refill system do i add some fluid then start motor and add till desired ????? what is the correct procedure???
When I did mine, I filled it to the proper levels and then started the truck and ran it for 10-15 seconds if I recall correctly. This will allow the fluid to fill the TQ.
Then re-check fluid and add as necessary. Again, this was for a different transmission, but I suspect the TQ will fill the same way.
