Okay,
I have all my parts gathered.. Drag link, inner/outer tie rod, radius arm bushing, pivot bushings and kingpins. now what is the best way to take it apart to add replace these parts... Tie rods, drag link and king pins are self explanatory. the bushings on the other hand are what has me baffled as to the best way to attack it.
should I just drop the whole front end out the put it back in or is there a better way?
I dropped the i beam out and installed the poly radius arm bushings. On the rear I took a piece of pipe and some washers and threaded rod put the washer about the size of the bushing on one side and the pipe on the other and then put the threaded rod thru and pulled the old bushing into the pipe.reverse procedure to install
the radius arm bushings are not that bad to replace , take a good come a long or chain hoist and pull the arm straight out from the front , you will have to tie the come a long or hoist to a tree or light post or another truck that wont move and it helps some times to have a helper to hold the brakes !
as for bushings that are pressed in i like to take a torch and burn the old ones out , if you go back with Poly bushing then they will slide right in . you will have to cut the sleeve out though !
the king pins can be a real pain if they have never been greased for a long time !
you may have to heat them up some and the king pin bushings will have to be chiseled
out ! new king pins can come with ether brass or plastic or they use to from NAPA any ways !
you also may need to ream the brass bushing once installed !!
